Jacques Lundja and Tony Mukash from South Kivu province, DRCongo decided to start the association with others friends when in 2007 during armed conflict in eastern of DRCongo to campaign for justice and protection for Mbuti women, bringing out the particular discrimination they face.
Jacques Lundja and Tony told AMWR members:
‘’WE WILL START by remembering Kongolo, a 14-year-old Mbuti girl, who was raped by four Congolese soldiers in 2006. Kongolo’s 5-year-old sister, Kazadi, and their parents were murdered by the FDLR,rebel group soldiers . We have informed others friends who are now members of AMWR that Mbuti women “live with the risk of: abduction and rape by armed group; being traded for settling disputes and debts; and face daily discrimination from all segments of society as well as by state officials”
